Seaglass Publishing, L.L.C. was established in 2003 to produce the book Pure Sea Glass: Discovering Nature's Vanishing Gems (June 2004). The book earned first place honors for non-fiction in the 13th Annual Writer's Digest International Self-Publishing Book Competition (March 2006). The company has since shipped more than 100,000 copies to individuals and bookstores throughout North America and beyond.

The firm launched a line of sea glass themed note cards in 2005 and continues to expand products for their growing audience of beachcombers and coastal enthusiasts which includes products such as the Pure Sea Glass Identification Card Deck, pocket journals and wall calendars.




Richard LaMotte

Richard LaMotte has worked in marketing and advertising for a water analysis company since 1984. He is a founding member and past President of the North American Sea Glass Association and has assisted his wife, Nancy, in collecting more than 35,000 shards of sea glass. Following several years of glass research he wrote the book Pure Sea Glass.He continues to offer lectures, appraisals and signings throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Author Richard LaMotte has been at the forefront of sea-glass research since presenting his first lecture on the topic back in 2002.  His book, Pure Sea Glass, Discovering Nature’s Vanishing Gems, is a master reference on sea glass for North American collectors, earning first place in nonfiction from the Writer’s Digest 13th Annual International Self-Published Book Awards. He recently published The Lure of Sea Glass, Our Connection to Nature's Gems and is currently lecturing on this sequel as well.

Richard's books and presentations educate and encourage collectors to develop successful beachcombing strategies and—through the history of glass manufacturing and the science of ocean weathering—unlock the mysteries of their seaside treasures.  

Richard has been featured in newspapers around the country including the Washington PostNew York TimesBoston GlobeThe Baltimore Sun; magazines such as: Coastal LivingParade MagazineDelaware Beach Life; and appeared on TV with The Martha Stewart Show and Maryland Public Television as well as interviewed on National Public Radio.

Richard and his family spend time beachcombing near their home in Chestertown, Maryland and along the Delaware Coast.  

Nancy LaMotte

Nancy LaMotte began working with jewelry in her native New York in 1978. After graduating from Boston University's School for the Arts, she initially held a marketing position in Connecticut and in 1991 she moved to Chestertown, Maryland to marry Richard and raise a family. She returned to the arts in late 1999 when she started Chesapeake Seaglass jewelry. She now manages the operations of Sea Glass Publishing and creates custom pieces of jewelry for her clients.
